Deepa Mandavi, the 22-year-old daughter of late BJP leader Bheema Mandavi, was found dead in her paying guest accommodation in Dehradun on January 26. Her family confirmed that she allegedly died by suicide.
Deepa was a third-year physiotherapy student at a private institute in Dehradun. Initially living with friends in a rented house, she had moved to a PG accommodation in Karanpur just a week before the incident. Police reported that no suicide note was found, though the case is being treated as a suspected suicide.
A family tragedy
Deepa’s father, Bheema Mandavi, was killed in a Naxal attack in Dantewada in 2019 while serving as a BJP MLA. This is not the first tragedy for the family—one of Deepa’s sisters also died by suicide in 2013 after jumping from a building in Raipur.
Deepa had recently visited her home in Gadapal village, Dantewada, before her untimely death. Her mother, Ojasvi Mandavi, who is a member of the Chhattisgarh State Women Commission, traveled to Dehradun with other family members upon hearing the news. Deepa’s last rites were performed in her native village on January 30.

Family background
Bheema Mandavi had three daughters, including Deepa, and a son. He married Ojasvi after his first wife passed away in a road accident.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed his sorrow over Deepa’s death, stating on X (formerly Twitter):
“The news of the sudden death of Deepa Mandavi, daughter of late MLA Bheema Mandavi and State Women Commission member Ojasvi Mandavi, is deeply saddening. I spoke to Ojasvi ji to convey my condolences. I pray for the departed soul’s peace and strength for the grieving family.”
The tragic loss of Deepa has added another chapter of grief to the Mandavi family, which has already endured significant hardship over the years.
