Businessman and former Haryana MLA Balraj Kundu has received an extortion threat via WhatsApp demanding Rs 5 crore within two days, failing which he was warned of “serious consequences”, officials said.
The former legislator filed a complaint by email with Haryana Director General of Police Ajay Kumar Singhal, seeking strict action against the caller and enhanced security cover.
Kundu informed us that the number, along with the voice message and other relevant details, has been shared with the police for investigation.
He said the threat began with a WhatsApp call from an unknown number, which he did not answer. Shortly afterwards, the same number sent a voice message containing threats and intimidation, explicitly demanding Rs 5 crore.
Expressing alarm at the audacity of the caller, Kundu stated, “If public representatives themselves are receiving extortion threats, the safety of the common man can well be judged from this incident.”
According to Kundu, the caller claimed to be associated with the notorious Rohit Godara gang and warned of dire consequences if the demand was not met.
This is not an isolated case. Recently, a similar extortion threat was issued to Hemant Bakshi, a prominent jeweller and president of the Rohtak Traders’ Association, which sparked outrage among local traders who demanded the registration of an FIR.
