An expelled Congress MLA, Rahul Mamkootathil, was granted anticipatory bail by a court here on Wednesday in the second case of sexual assault filed against him. The legislator's lawyer, advocate Ajithkumar (Sasthamangalam), confirmed that the relief was provided by the sessions court.
Mamkootathil had already received interim protection from arrest from the Kerala High Court in the first case registered against him, which involved allegations of sexual assault and forced abortion.
The Palakkad MLA has been in hiding since the initial case was filed. He was formally expelled from the Congress party on December 4, following the second sexual assault complaint and the earlier rejection of his anticipatory bail requests by a sessions court.
