Eldest son of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunandhi, MK Muthu passed away on Saturday owing to age-related illness, family members revealed. He was an actor and playback singer. This 77-year-old actor is a senior brother of Chief Minister MK Stalin. His MP sister Kanimozhi, upon hearing the mournful news while participating in an event at Madurai, quickly returned to the city to pay her last homage.

Stalin and his Deputy Chief Minister son Udhayanidhi came hurrying to Muthu's house here to pay their tributes to Muthu, born in 1948, who left his impression in the Tamil film industry.

Notifying about the passing away of Muthu for reasons of old age, the state government announced his body will be placed at Gopalapuram bungalow of late Karunanidhi to enable the public to pay homage. His last rites will be carried out this evening, the release added.

“The news that the eldest son of Kalaignar (Karunanidhi) family, my dear brother MK Muthu, passed away struck me like a thunderbolt this morning. The grief of losing my beloved brother, who showed me affection on par with my mother and father, torments me,” Stalin said.

Karunanidhi named him Muthu in memory of his father Muthuvel.

"Similar to Kalaignar, brother Muthu made contributions to the Dravidian movement with plays during his childhood. He had a style of his own in acting, delivery of dialogue, and body language. It was his energy and passion that led him into the film arena in 1970. He was in double role in his first film," the Chief Minister tweeted on the social media platform 'X'.

He will forever be remembered in the Tamil community.

"He possessed a unique quality that some actors don't. He could sing songs in his voice nicely. The song 'Nalla Manathil Kudiyirikkum Nagoor Andava' and the song 'Sonthakaaranga Enakku Romba Perunga' are songs that many people can still not forget," he said.

He was always fond of him and always supported him, Stalin stated and added even though his brother was no longer with him he would be ever living in people's hearts through art, songs, and music.
