Extremists torched a container vehicle belonging to a construction company late Tuesday night, resulting in the death of a worker on the McCluskieganj-Chama road, approximately 60 km from Ranchi, Jharkhand.
The attack occurred around 11:30 PM when a squad of armed rebels created havoc on the road.
The extremists targeted and stopped the container, forcing the driver to flee.
Subsequently, they set the vehicle ablaze, unaware that a cook from the company was sleeping inside.
The worker, employed by Singh Infratel Private Limited, was burned alive.
Singh Infratel Pvt Ltd is engaged in laying optical fibre for BSNL.
Sources indicate that the company’s HDD machine truck, loaded with essential equipment, was parked in a village after a day’s work in the McCluskieganj police station area of Ranchi district.
At the time of the attack, eight workers were present at the site, seven of whom were sleeping on the truck. The cook, unfortunately, slept inside the container and could not escape the flames.
Local sources reported that the armed extremists opened fire before setting the truck ablaze.
Upon receiving the information, SP (Rural) Ranchi, along with officers from Khalari and McCluskieganj police stations, rushed to the scene to initiate an investigation.
The incident has sparked fear and outrage in the area, raising concerns about the safety of workers involved in crucial infrastructure projects.
Authorities are now intensifying their efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure the security of construction sites in the region.
After receiving the information, SP (Rural) Ranchi, Khalari PS in charge, McCluskieganj PS in-charge along with the police force reached the spot and have started investigation into the incident.
