Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit West Bengal again later this month, with sources indicating that he may hold two separate programmes in the state in January. The proposed visit is expected to include two public meetings— one in North Bengal and another in South Bengal. Preparations for the Prime Minister’s visit have reportedly already begun within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

With the West Bengal Assembly elections scheduled for this year, political activity across the state has intensified. While the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has stepped up its statewide campaign, the saffron camp is also sharpening its electoral strategy. As part of this push, the BJP is planning to bring senior leaders from Delhi to strengthen its campaign, and the Prime Minister’s visit is seen as a key part of that effort.

According to party sources, Modi may hold rallies on January 17 and 18. A public meeting is likely to be held in Malda in North Bengal on January 17, followed by another in Howrah in South Bengal on January 18. However, the BJP has not yet made any official announcement regarding the itinerary.

Earlier, the Prime Minister was scheduled to address a rally in Taherpur, under Krishnanagar, on December 20. That visit was disrupted due to adverse weather conditions, which prevented his helicopter from landing. As a result, Modi addressed the gathering virtually and had assured the people that he would visit Taherpur in person if he got the opportunity.

Meanwhile, the TMC has also launched its election campaign in full swing. The party’s state-wide programme, titled ‘Bangla Abar Jitbe (Bengal will win again)’, has begun, with All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee leading extensive public outreach efforts across various districts. On Friday, Banerjee kicked off his district tour with a rally in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas.

On the same day, Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari addressed a rally in Chanchal, Malda. In parallel, following a message from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, former state BJP president Dilip Ghosh held a meeting with party workers at the BJP office in Salt Lake.

Taken together, these developments indicate that the contours of the electoral battle in Bengal are becoming increasingly visible, with both major parties accelerating their campaigns.
