Notices have been issued to several pharmaceutical companies whose medicine samples failed quality tests, asking them to recall their stock from the market, Himachal Pradesh State Drug Controller Manish Kapoor said.
Out of 200 medicine samples tested across the country, 47 were found to have been manufactured in Himachal Pradesh. These included medicines used to treat fever, heart attacks, and diabetes. Of the failed samples, 28 were from Solan district, 18 from Sirmaur, and one from Una, officials said on Saturday.
In November 2025, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) collected 65 samples, while the State Drug Controller collected 135 samples. A total of 47 samples were found to be substandard.
"Notices have been issued to the companies whose medicine samples failed the quality tests. They have also been asked to recall the stock from the market," Manish said.
He added that explanations have been sought from the companies concerned and that action will be taken against them as per existing regulations. Kapoor was speaking to mediapersons in Solan.
The medicines that failed quality tests include Paracetamol used for fever, Clopidogrel and Aspirin used for heart conditions, Metformin for controlling blood sugar, Ramipril for heart-related ailments, Sodium Valproate for epilepsy, and Mebeverine Hydrochloride for relieving muscle spasms, among several other drugs.
Officials said there has been a recurring pattern of medicine samples manufactured in the state failing quality checks. Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil had earlier stated that companies with repeated failures would be blacklisted and that action was already being taken.
In addition, a monthly alert issued by the central drug regulator in March 2025 revealed that 38 drug samples produced by various pharmaceutical companies in Himachal Pradesh did not meet prescribed quality standards.
