Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Monday that the state government would offer an ex gratia payment of Rs one crore to the families of Indian Air Force (IAF) soldier Cpl Vikki Pahade, who was killed by militants in the Poonch region of Jammu and Kashmir on May 4.

Additionally, an equal compensation amount will be provided to Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Mahendra Bagri, who lost his life in an encounter with the sand mafia in Shahdol district late on May 3.

In an official statement issued on Monday, CM Yadav revealed that the state government would submit a proposal to the Election Commission seeking approval for the ex gratia sum, considering the ongoing Model Code of Conduct for Lok Sabha elections.

"The state government will forward the proposal to the Election Commission for the clearance of an ex gratia payment of Rs. one crore to the families of ASI Mahendra Bagri and IAF Jawan Vikki Pahade," stated the Chief Minister's Office.

CM Yadav is scheduled to attend the funeral of the late Vikki Pahade and has already departed for Chhindwara.

The final rites of ASI Mahendra Bagri took place on Sunday in the presence of the Shahdol Collector and Superintendent of Police.

This unfortunate incident marks the second occurrence within six months where the sand mafia has been involved in a fatal encounter with a government official.

In a similar incident last December, a Patwari (regional revenue officer) was fatally injured by the sand mafia in Shahdol district.
