J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed grief over the tragic loss of five family members, including a month-old infant, who died due to suffocation in the Pandrethan area of Srinagar.
In his brief message, Sinha said: "Saddened by the loss of precious lives in this tragic incident in Srinagar. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family in this hour of grief."
On Sunday evening, five family members, including a month-old infant and an 18-month-old baby boy, died due to suffocation in their home, officials said.
A senior police official informed reporters that the five family members, living in a rented accommodation in Pandrethan, died late at night after falling unconscious due to suffocation.
The family, originally from Baramulla, had been living in a rented house in Pandrethan.
“They were shifted to the hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead on arrival,” the official said.
The deceased have been identified as Ajaz Ahmad Bhat (38), his wife Saleema (32), and their three children—Areeb (3), Hamza (18 months), and a month-old infant boy.
Shortly after the tragedy, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed grief and sorrow over the incident, offering his deepest condolences to the bereaved relatives and praying for strength and patience to help them cope with such an irreparable loss.
As the bodies of all five family members were brought back to Pandrethan, wails and cries filled the air, with sorrow enveloping the entire area, leaving residents in shock.
