Family refuses to meet BJP ministers, seeks arrest of senior cops

The late officer’s widow, senior IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, refused to meet any BJP ministers. She also refused Chandigarh Police access to her husband’s laptop for the probe.

Haryana-cadre IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, the wife of late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, refuses to meet BJP leaders.

The stalemate over the postmortem and final rites of Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar grew on Monday. The family stayed firm on their demand for the arrest of senior officers named in the FIR.

The late officer’s widow, senior IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, refused to meet any BJP ministers. She also refused Chandigarh Police access to her husband’s laptop for the probe.

Kumar, a senior IPS officer, was found dead at his Chandigarh home on October 7. His body is still at the Advanced Autopsy Centre of PGIMER. It had been moved from GMSH-16 on Saturday, as tensions continue to rise.

During a tense meeting at her home, a distressed Amneet Kumar, along with her brother and Punjab AAP MLA Amit Rattan Kotfatta, criticised visiting political leaders.

She said, “What have you done so far… what do you want to say… we don’t want anything from you… what have you done to my late husband… if the government wants, it may take his body as well.”

The family has made it clear they will not allow the postmortem or cremation until their key demand is met. They want the arrests of Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur, suspended Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya, and others named in the FIR.

Chandigarh Police asked for the officer’s laptop to retrieve digital evidence and check the timeline of a “final note” allegedly drafted and emailed by Kumar. The note, which led to the FIR on October 9, contains serious allegations against senior Haryana officials.

The family refused to hand over the laptop. They said they do not trust the authorities to handle the case fairly. Police officers warned that delaying the postmortem could harm the investigation. “Crucial indicators like gunpowder residues and ballistic markings could deteriorate, potentially weakening the case,” one officer said.

Meanwhile, political leaders kept visiting the family to offer condolences. On Monday, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale, Punjab Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, and former Union minister Pawan Kumar Bansal met them.
