Faridkot Police have arrested four alleged operatives and seized 47.3 kg of heroin in an operation targeting a cross-border smuggling network. The recovery also included three pistols, three magazines, 15 cartridges and two vehicles.
Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Sunday that the preliminary inquiry indicated links between the arrested individuals and a network allegedly involved in bringing heroin and illegal weapons into Punjab from across the border.
An FIR has been filed at Sadiq Police Station in Faridkot. Investigators are now working to identify the wider network and trace both its forward and backward linkages.
The seizure was made as Punjab Police continue intensified action against narcotics and weapons trafficking networks operating in the border state.
Earlier this week, Faridkot Police arrested two alleged operatives in a separate case involving an international arms-smuggling network allegedly operated from jail. Officers recovered 10 illegal pistols and 20 live cartridges in that operation.
Preliminary findings in the earlier case suggested that the weapons had allegedly been sent from Pakistan using drones on the instructions of a kingpin lodged in Amritsar jail.
In another recent anti-narcotics action, a cross-border module in Amritsar was reported to have been dismantled, with three operatives arrested and 17 kg of heroin recovered.
Punjab Police have said they are maintaining strict surveillance against cross-border smuggling and focusing on networks involved in the movement of narcotics and illegal weapons.
