A 65-year-old farmer, Pargat Singh, tragically died on Friday at the protest site on the Shambhu border. He was a resident of Kakkar village in Tehsil Lopoke, Amritsar.
According to Kisan Mazdoor Morcha chief Sarwan Singh Pandher, Singh had gone to relieve himself in the morning when he suddenly collapsed.
Fellow farmers immediately rushed him to the government hospital in Rajpura, where he was declared dead on arrival.
"Today, farmer Pargat Singh of village Kakkar, district Amritsar, was martyred at Shambhu border. He was 65 years old. His mortal remains have been sent to his village Kakkar. He will be cremated in his native village tomorrow", said Pandher.

"We do not know how many more farmers will have to sacrifice their lives before the government agrees to our demands. In addition to compensation, we demand the waiver of loans taken by farmers from banks or private financial institutions," he added.
Singh is survived by three children. Pandher confirmed that more than 40 farmers have died during the ongoing protests at both the Khanauri and Shambhu borders.
