On Saturday, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher criticised the government, questioning how 101 farmers peacefully marching to Delhi could be seen as a threat to national peace and order.
Speaking about wrestler and All India Kisan Congress leader Bajrang Punia joining the farmers' protest, Pandher said they have no objections to sportspersons or celebrities participating. However, he emphasised keeping political parties out of the movement.
Ahead of the "Dilli Chalo" foot march, Pandher compared the farmers' protest to Parliament's ongoing discussions on the Constitution.
"Only 101 farmers will march to Delhi at 12 pm today. Every movement has a purpose. Despite government barriers and resistance, our message has reached 140 crore citizens. The voices of Shambhu and Khanauri are echoing across the nation, and the Prime Minister must listen," Pandher said.
He questioned, "While Parliament debates the Constitution, are Shambhu and Khanauri governed by a different one? How can 101 peaceful individuals walking on foot pose a threat to peace and order?"
Pandher also expressed serious concern about farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a hunger strike for 19 days at the Khanauri border. "His condition is critical. The entire nation is worried, yet the Prime Minister remains indifferent," he said.
Pandher reiterated the farmers' demand for the government to address long-standing issues, including a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) and loan waivers.
Since February 13, farmers have been camping at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana after government forces blocked their earlier attempts to reach Delhi. The protest is organised under the banners of Samyukta Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha.
Pandher also shared hopes of convincing farmers from other groups, who have not yet joined, to support the movement. "We aim to unite more farmers under this cause," he added.
