Farmers' organizations, Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, held protests against the BJP in various locations across Punjab and Haryana on Thursday. The protests, which included burning effigies of the BJP at multiple sites, were in support of their demands for a legal guarantee of minimum support price for crops.
The farmers have been agitating since February 13, when their 'Delhi Chalo' march was stopped by security forces at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points.
The protesters condemned the Haryana government's decision to recommend gallantry medals for six police officials who used force to prevent farmers from heading to Delhi.
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher condemned the move, stating that police officers were being rewarded for using teargas shells and rubber bullets against farmers.
"The agitation will continue till the demands of farmers and labourers are not met," Pandher said.
The protests saw farmers raising slogans against the Centre and the Haryana government, with a young farmer, Shubhkaran Singh, having lost his life in clashes at the Khanauri border point on February 21. The farmers' organizations remain resolute in their demands, which include a legal guarantee of minimum support price for crops.
