Farmers have intensified their protest at the Punjab-Haryana border, calling for a 'Kisan Mahapanchayat' at the Shambhu-Khanauri border on January 4.
The protest is directed against the central government, with the decision to organise the Mahapanchayat being unanimously made by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha.
Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is at the center of the movement, is expected to address the gathering during the Kisan Mahapanchayat. "On January 4, lakhs of farmers will assemble at the Khanauri border for the Mahapanchayat, as both organisations have agreed to this decision," stated farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohar.
The Kisan Mahapanchayat comes in the wake of Jagjit Singh Dallewal's fast unto death, which began on November 26 at the Khanauri border. Dallewal's hunger strike has raised serious health concerns as his condition worsens due to his refusal to accept medical treatment.
The Supreme Court recently criticised the Punjab government over its failure to address Dallewal's health crisis effectively and ensure his hospitalisation. The court also expressed dissatisfaction with the protesting farmers for resisting attempts by the government to provide medical assistance to Dallewal.

The criticism came during a hearing of a contempt petition against the Punjab Chief Secretary for not complying with the court's December 20 order to provide necessary medical aid to Dallewal.
As the Shambhu-Khanauri border protest gains momentum, the Kisan Mahapanchayat is expected to draw significant attention to the farmers' grievances and the ongoing hunger strike by Dallewal.
The protest at the Punjab-Haryana border remains a crucial platform for farmers to voice their demands, with the Kisan Mahapanchayat and Dallewal's fast unto death symbolizing their determination to seek justice.
