Members of the All-India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) will stage protests and demonstrations across Haryana on October 28 against the government for blaming farmers over pollution and registering FIRs against them for stubble burning. A decision in this regard was taken by the state-level meeting of the AIKS organised in Rohtak on Thursday.
AIKS national finance secretary P Krishna Prasad said the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) decided during a national-level meeting to hold a country wide protest on November 26 to mark the completion of four years of farmers’ movement in Delhi.
The demonstration will give a three-month notice to the Central government to fulfil the farmers’ demands of legal guarantee of MSP, loan waiver and construction of martyrs’ memorial.
“If the said issues are not resolved, a big nation-wide movement will be launched," said Prasad.
He also added that the strategy to decide the future course of action would be made in coordination with the SKM.
"The protests are also meant to press for timely purchase of farmers' produce, ensure adequate supply of fertilisers and address other concerns of the farmers," said state president of the Sabha, Balbir Singh.
AIKS national vice-president Inderjit Singh and other senior leaders attended the meeting.
"The BJP government has been repeatedly announcing that the farmers' produce is being purchased at MSP, but in reality, the farmers are being forced to sell their paddy, peanuts and moong produce below MSP," the sabha maintained.
Participants in the meeting noted that sometimes deductions are made on the pretext of moisture or quality, due to which farmers have to bear losses.
"The crop-loss compensation to be provided by the Revenue Department as well as insurance claims made under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) are pending," said the farmers.
The meeting discussed the recently held Haryana assembly elections. The Sabha maintained that BJP cannot stake claim of public opinion in its favour as nearly 60 pc of votes were against the party.
