Agitated by the detention of prominent farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, farm leaders from the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have announced a protest outside Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s residence in Sangrur on December 1.
The decision to escalate the protest was taken during a meeting at the Khanauri border on Thursday. Leaders also declared plans to burn effigies of CM Mann and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal across the country as a sign of dissent.
Speaking on the issue, Kaka Singh Kotra, general secretary of BKU (Sidhupur), criticized the Punjab government for targeting farmers.
“The protest was directed against the Union government, but the Punjab government attempted to derail it by unlawfully detaining Jagjit Singh Dallewal. This shows that CM Mann is acting in coordination with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and has effectively become a ‘B team’ of the BJP,” Kotra stated.
The farm leaders emphasised their determination to hold the protest at the chief minister’s residence to demand justice and highlight what they termed the Punjab government’s unfair actions.
This marks a significant escalation in the ongoing farmers' protests, as leaders continue to express dissatisfaction with both the state and central governments.
