Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda has alleged that while the BJP government has failed to showcase any notable developmental achievements, fresh scams continue to emerge regularly.
Reacting to the ₹160 crore fixed deposit (FD) scam uncovered in the Panchkula Municipal Corporation, Hooda said large sums of public money had been siphoned off through forged FD documents. He asserted that a fraud of such scale could not have occurred without the involvement of officials and called for a comprehensive, high-level inquiry into the matter.

Hooda further claimed that this was not an isolated incident, alleging that several scams had taken place under the BJP government even before this case surfaced. Referring to the ₹590 crore IDFC scam, he said another similar fraud has now come to light in Panchkula. He also alleged ongoing irregularities in agricultural ‘mandis’ under the ‘Bhavantar’ scheme for potato procurement, where compensation mechanisms were being misused.
Expanding his criticism, Hooda accused those in power of allowing illegal exploitation of natural resources. He alleged that under state patronage, mafias have been involved in large-scale theft of valuable ‘Khair’ trees worth hundreds of crores in the Morni and Yamunanagar regions over the past few months.
He stressed that only an impartial and high-level probe into all these alleged scams could curb the misuse of public funds and ensure that those responsible are held accountable through strict action.
