Torn pages of a Gutka Sahib were found scattered along Airport Road near Sohana in Mohali late Tuesday night, triggering tension in the area following an alleged sacrilege act. The pages were discovered over a stretch of nearly 700–800 metres between Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan and Gurdwara Mata Sundri Ji.  The Gutka Sahib is a Sikh prayer book featuring selected hymns drawn from the Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

The police said a gurdwara sewadar first spotted the torn pages around 11 pm. The incident drew large crowds, leading to protests and a road blockade on Airport Road. People searched the surroundings, and the angs (holy pages) were later respectfully gathered and covered in siropas (robes of honour).

Deputy Superintendent of Police Harsimran Singh Bal reached the site along with police teams and began an investigation. Officials said CCTV cameras installed nearby are being checked and assured that the accused would be identified and arrested at the earliest.

Local residents suspected that the Gutka Sahibs kept at Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan might have been taken away and desecrated elsewhere before being scattered on the road. They also feared the act could have been pre-planned, as the torn pages were spread across a long distance.

“This is a very sensitive matter, and the police are making every effort to identify and arrest the accused,” said Dilpreet Singh, Superintendent of Police, City, Mohali. He added that an FIR has been registered under relevant legal provisions.

BJP leader Sanjeev Vashisht also visited the spot and sought immediate arrests and strict action against those responsible. He said such incidents were rare even during Punjab’s difficult past and warned that repeated acts could disturb communal harmony.

The protesters sought a high-level investigation into the incident and demanded strict punishment for those involved under the law.

Station House Officer (SHO) Sohana, Simar Shergill, said CCTV footage and other evidence were being examined and that the investigation was progressing.

SAS Nagar MLA Kulwant Singh termed the incident a conspiracy to disturb peace in Punjab and said the accused would face the strictest punishment once identified.
