A fire broke out at the official residence of Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Mahendra Pal Gurjar in Una on Friday morning, damaging property worth lakhs, including valuable items on the upper floor.
As per the initial information, smoke and flames were suddenly seen rising from the top floor, causing panic among nearby residents who rushed out of their homes in fear.
The fire spread quickly and destroyed a bed, an LED TV, furniture, and other household items in the room. Officials said the fire was brought under control in time, preventing a bigger disaster.
After receiving the alert, a fire department team headed by in-charge Ashok Rana reached the spot and doused the flames, stopping the fire from spreading to nearby houses.
Gurjar was not at home when the incident happened. His family members were on the lower floor and are safe. No injuries or casualties were reported.
The ADC said everything in the upper-floor room was reduced to ashes. Preliminary investigations suggest an electrical short circuit caused the fire. A detailed probe is underway.
