A major fire broke out on Saturday near the Kamath Hotel in Hyderabad’s Nampally area, sparking a frantic rescue operation as several residents were reported stuck inside.
According to AIMIM MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig Quadri, who spoke from the scene, at least six people are feared trapped within the building. "Officials are currently focused on reaching them and bringing them out safely," Quadri told reporters as the situation unfolded.
The fire department has deployed four fire tenders to the site to battle the flames. Officials have said that there have been no casualties so far.
The seriousness of the incident drew senior leadership to the spot, with Telangana State Fire DG Vikram Singh Mann arriving to personally oversee the rescue efforts. Emergency teams are still on-site, and the area has been cordoned off as they work to clear the building.
The incident threw traffic into a total standstill across several key junctions. The congestion is hitting almost every major artery in the vicinity. Drivers are currently facing heavy delays around the High Court backside gate, Delhi Gate, Nayapool, and the Afzal Gunj area. The gridlock has also spilled over into Sultan Bazar, Begum Bazar, and MJ Market. If you’re coming from Gandhi Bhavan or trying to take the left turn via Ek Minar Road, expect significant tailbacks.
In a direct appeal to the public, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police VC Sajjanar has suggested that people skip their visit to the Numaish exhibition for the day.
The traffic issues aren't just limited to the fire site, either. Reports are coming in of heavy congestion building up at Ayodhya Junction and Masab Tank, stretching toward the PVNR Flyover.
