A tragic fire broke out in a firecracker shop in Garhwa district, Jharkhand, on Monday, killing at least five people, including three children. The victims included the shop owner, a customer, and three minors.
The incident occurred at a shop located in the Godarmana market, near the Jharkhand-Chhattisgarh border.
Garhwa Superintendent of Police Deepak Pandey confirmed the tragedy and stated that the bodies of the deceased have been taken to the mortuary at Ramanujganj Hospital in Chhattisgarh. According to local residents, the cause of the fire remains unknown.
However, the explosion was so powerful that it shook the entire market, causing panic among people in the area.
As soon as the fire broke out, locals attempted to help and managed to take five victims to the hospital. Unfortunately, doctors declared all of them dead upon arrival. The victims were identified as Kush Kumar, 46, Ajit Keshari, 36, Sushila Karketa, 15, Priyansh, 10, and Shreyansh, 8.
Sub Divisional Police Officer of Ranka stated that the fire occurred between 11 am and 12 noon. Following the incident, the injured were rushed to Ramanujganj Hospital for treatment, but none of them survived.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident. He posted a message on the social media platform X, describing the fire as heartbreaking. He offered prayers for the souls of the deceased and hoped that their families find the strength to endure this painful loss. He also assured that the district administration is investigating the incident.
