One person killed and two others were hurt in a shooting at a hotel in Lalsingi in Himachal Pradesh’s Una district, police said on Thursday. The incident took place on Wednesday night after an argument broke out at a birthday party, during which a group of people allegedly opened fire.
The deceased has been identified as Ashu Puri from Santokhgarh near Una town.
Two youngsters who suffered serious injuries were referred to PGI Chandigarh for treatment. Both are reported to be in critical condition.
Sources said both groups had come to the hotel to celebrate a birthday. During the party, an argument started and within minutes turned into a violent fight. People rushed outside, and one group allegedly fired at the other with a pistol.
The sudden firing caused panic among people near the hotel, and bystanders ran for safety. Ashu was hit by a bullet during the firing and collapsed on the spot. He was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police said the main accused in the shooting has been arrested, and efforts are underway to identify and catch the other youngsters involved. Una Superintendent of Police Amit Yadav said a case has been registered under the relevant sections, and action is being taken.
Police have recovered bullet casings and other evidence from the spot. They are investigating all angles, including whether there was a previous dispute or if the argument at the birthday party triggered the shooting.
