Political unrest in West Bengal intensified in the aftermath of the RG Kar rape-murder protest march on Saturday, with Kolkata Police confirming that seven FIRs have been lodged against BJP MLA Ashok Dinda, BJP leader Agnimitra Pal and several others from the party.
According to police sources, five personnel in uniform sustained serious injuries during the operation. A video allegedly showing an attack on police officers on Jawaharlal Nehru Road has been released, and authorities are examining CCTV footage to identify the accused.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Shuvendu Adhikari has levelled grave allegations against the police, claiming that the protest was peaceful until law enforcement resorted to a lathicharge. He further alleged that even the parents of the victim of the RG Kar Medical College incident were assaulted.
“Police commissioner Manoj Verma’s police did not even spare Abhaya’s parents,” Adhikari asserted, adding that over a hundred people were injured and the national flag was desecrated. He has threatened to take legal action over the incident.
Political observers said the continued exchange of allegations and counter-allegations is further fuelling the already heated political climate in the state ahead of the next year’s Assembly elections.
