The first batch of pilgrims for the Amarnath Yatra 2025 will leave the Jammu base camp on Wednesday after official flagging off from the Bhagwati Nagar-Yatri Niwas base camp, officials said.
The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, will flag off the first batch. Devotees, including ‘sadhus’, have arrived at the Yatri Niwas and other centres for the Yatra before leaving from Jammu on Wednesday.
The Yatris are upbeat for the upcoming 38-day annual Amarnath Yatra, as a rush of pilgrims arrived here to join the first batch amid tight security arrangements.
One of the devotees waiting for the commencement of the Yatra said, “We are happy with the start of the Yatra. I completed all registration-related processes and reached Jammu yesterday evening.”
Another yatra expressed his satisfaction with the overall arrangements made by the Jammu and Kashmir government and the Shrine board. To ease the registration-related hassle, this year the government has set up special offline registration centres in Jammu.
“The registration after getting the token can be completed at the centres at Vaishnavi Dham, Panchayat Bhawan, and Mahajan Sabha, which open at 7 am,” said an official.
He also said Rs 2,000 are collected as a registration cost, adding that “all counters will be closed after the exhaustion of the quota.”
Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar had recently said that the Amarnath Yatra would not be allowed through railways, and 60 RFID centres are also being established at five prominent districts in the Jammu region.
Kumar said, “No Yatri will be allowed to travel by train, and the entire process will be completed by road under properly implemented regulations by security forces.”
The IGP Jammu also appealed to the people to adhere to the dos and don’ts and public advisories being issued by the administration. The locals in Jammu, however, have expressed happiness over the start of the yatra, saying that they are ready to welcome the devotees from all over the country.
