The first group of Sikh pilgrims, led by the Panch Pyaras, began their spiritual journey to Shri Hemkund Sahib for the 2025 Yatra. The group departed with the Nishan Sahib (holy flag) under full police escort, said the Chamoli Police in a statement shared on social media platform X.

“Shri Hemkund Sahib Yatra 2025: The first group of Sikh devotees, led by the Panch Pyaras, has set out for Shri Hemkund Sahib with the Nishan Sahib and complete police security,” read the post. The Chamoli Police have implemented extensive security arrangements to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage experience for the devotees.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami formally flagged off the first batch from Rishikesh and extended a warm welcome to pilgrims from across India and abroad. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to a safe, well-managed, and spiritually enriching pilgrimage.

“The portals of Shri Hemkund Sahib will open on May 25. All preparations have been completed for the devotees,” CM Dhami said.

Highlighting infrastructure developments, the Chief Minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving ropeway projects for both Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib. “The journey, which is currently difficult, will become easier in the near future,” he added.

Uttarakhand Governor Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh (Retd.) also welcomed the devotees and expressed appreciation for the efforts of the state administration and the Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee. “We see it as 'Atithi Devo Bhava'. I thank the Chief Minister, administration, and all those involved in ensuring a seamless Yatra experience,” the Governor stated.

Emphasising respect for security forces, CM Dhami urged all pilgrims undertaking the Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib Yatras to salute and honour the army personnel stationed along the route.

During the flag-off event, the Chief Minister also highlighted the government’s environmental commitment, stating that over 11 lakh devotees had already completed the Char Dham Yatra this year.

“Shri Hemkund Sahib lies in an ecologically sensitive zone. We are committed to preserving the environment and have resolved to keep the Yatra plastic-free. Pilgrims are requested to follow all traditional and regulatory guidelines,” Dhami said.

He also mentioned that facilities have been enhanced to ensure convenience, safety, and comfort for all devotees visiting the high-altitude shrine, located at over 15,000 feet near Joshimath in Chamoli district.
