In a historic achievement, Police Inspector Dwarka Vishwanath Dokhe, a 49-year-old officer from the Maharashtra Police Force, has become the first female officer from the force to conquer Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world.

Inspector Dokhe reached the summit at 4:10 am on Wednesday, where she marked the moment by singing the national anthem and proudly waving both the Indian tricolour and the Maharashtra police flag.

The Maharashtra police's official X handle shared photos capturing her triumphant journey.

"No challenge is too big for our Police Inspector Dwarka Vishwanath Dokhe as she ascended the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest," read the caption accompanying her photos.

Inspector Dokhe expressed her emotional dedication of this climb to her late parents, stating, "My sole aim in scaling Mount Everest was to pay tribute to them."

Who is Dwarka Vishwanath Dokhe?

Inspector Dokhe hails from Srirampur in Ahmednagar district. She joined the police force as a sub-inspector through direct recruitment in 2006.

An avid climber since 2016, she currently serves as a Cybercrime Instructor at the Nashik Police Academy. Her interest in Mount Everest was ignited in 2022 after reading the book 'Saad Deti Him Shikhare'.

As reported by the Marathi daily Sakal, Inspector Dokhe's journey to Everest began on March 24, 2024, when she arrived in Kathmandu.

Under the guidance of Lakpa Sherpa, she commenced her ascent from Everest Base Camp on May 17 and reached the summit on May 22. She carried a photo of her parents to the peak as a heartfelt tribute.

Inspector Dokhe's ascent was not without its challenges.

A previous attempt had been thwarted by health issues. However, her determination led her to undertake rigorous training, which ultimately enabled her to achieve this monumental goal.

To prepare for her Everest expedition, Inspector Dokhe followed an intense training regimen.

This included running 15 km three times a week, walking on a treadmill set at a 60-degree incline while carrying over 210 kilograms on her back for two hours daily, and repeatedly climbing the stairs of an eight-story building every other day.

Additionally, she incorporated full-body workouts into her schedule.

Beyond her climbing achievements, Inspector Dokhe imparts her knowledge of cybercrime at the Maharashtra Police Academy.

During her tenure at the Pune police commissioner’s office, she was honoured with a Marathi book about glaciers, underscoring her diverse contributions and accomplishments.
