Voting for the first phase of Chhattisgarh’s three-tier panchayat elections began on Monday across 53 blocks of the state. In Nimora village, visuals from a polling booth showed voters casting their ballots as the process unfolded smoothly.

The Chhattisgarh Election Commission had previously announced that the elections would take place in three phases, scheduled for February 17, 20, and 23, with the results to be declared on February 18, 21, and 24, respectively.

In the lead-up to the elections, Union Minister and BJP National President JP Nadda congratulated Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and BJP workers on their success in the state’s recent civic polls.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious, securing all mayoral posts in ten municipal corporations and winning the chairperson's position in 35 municipal councils and 81 Nagar Panchayats.

Nadda termed the BJP’s success a “historic victory,” reflecting the trust of the people in the public welfare initiatives spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He expressed his congratulations through a post on social media platform X, writing, “I heartily congratulate the Chief Minister @vishnudsai ji, State President @KiranDeoBJP ji, and all the workers of BJP Chhattisgarh on the massive victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Chhattisgarh urban body elections.”

“The victory is a symbol of the unwavering faith of the people of the state in the public welfare and tribal-friendly schemes being implemented by the double-engine government under the guidance of the respected Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji,” Nadda added.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai also expressed pride in the party’s success, stating, “This is a historic day for Chhattisgarh BJP and the state government… BJP has won all 10 seats with a huge margin.” He further emphasised that Congress had been “wiped clean” in the civic polls, with the opposition failing to win a single seat.

The state held elections for 173 urban bodies, including 10 municipal corporations, 49 municipal councils, and 114 Nagar Panchayats on February 11.
