At least five Amarnath pilgrims suffered injuries after a vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident and rammed into a roadside-parked dumper at Sangoor Chowk on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Udhampur district on Saturday, officials said.
Teams from the Jammu and Kashmir police and rescue officials rushed to the spot and immediately shifted the injured pilgrims to the Associated Hospital, Government Medical College (GMC), Udhampur, for treatment.
The injured passengers were identified as Rakesh Kumar (44), Ansh (15), Vishal Verma (21), Surjeet Kumar (20) and Neerja Verma (33), all residents of Lakhimpur and Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh. The driver, identified as Yasir (32), a resident of Ganderbal, also suffered injuries in the accident.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered by the police to investigate the causes and circumstances leading to the mishap.
Shortly after the accident, officials said the two damaged vehicles were immediately removed from the road, and traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was restored without any hindrance to the ongoing traffic.
