The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Friday was adjourned sine die by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, marking the conclusion of a nine-day session that also witnessed elections to four Rajya Sabha seats from the Union Territory and the passage of several key bills.
The session, which functioned smoothly despite a few noisy disruptions, saw the passage of five government bills and discussions on two private members’ resolutions.
During the autumn session sitting, the Assembly Secretariat received 732 questions, of which 682 were admitted, while 29 were taken up for discussion, and 73 supplementaries were raised by members.
A total of 97 Zero Hour issues were also brought up during the proceedings. As per sources, 14 bills were received, and 33 from previous sessions remain pending.
Out of the 41 private bills listed for discussion, only eight were discussed, yet all other bills were either withdrawn by members following government assurances or defeated by voice vote at the introduction stage.
Besides, 67 calling attention notices were submitted, with only ten taken up for discussion. Fourteen private members’ resolutions were admitted, though only one was passed.
The only major disruption occurred when BJP legislators staged a walkout after the Speaker, Rather, rejected an adjournment motion moved by Udhampur MLA Pawan Gupta seeking a debate on the condition of flood victims in Jammu and Kashmir.
In his concluding remarks, Speaker Rather expressed gratitude to all members for their cooperation, saying, “I thank all members for their support in conducting the proceedings of the House smoothly and without disruptions.”
