In the Pagaria area of Rajasthan's Jhalawar district, tragedy struck as five men, including two brothers, were reportedly crushed to death by a dumper following a dispute, as per police reports on Sunday.
The incident, allegedly perpetrated by two individuals identified as Ranjeet Singh and Dunger Singh, occurred late Saturday, with the accused fleeing the scene thereafter, authorities stated.
The victims, identified as siblings Bharat Singh (22) and Dhiraj Singh (20), along with Tufan Singh (33), Goverdhan Singh (28), and Balu Singh (20), hailed from Binnayga Fanta village.
According to Pagaria SHO Vijendra Singh, a confrontation had ensued between Ranjeet Singh, Dunger Singh, aged around 20-22, and Bharat Singh, and others late Saturday, though the exact cause of the dispute remains under investigation.
Unable to resolve the conflict, Bharat Singh, his brother, and the three other victims set out for the police station on two motorcycles. Tragically, before they could cover much ground, Ranjeet Singh and Dunger Singh purportedly commandeered a nearby dumper and drove it over the motorcycles, resulting in the deaths of four victims at the scene, while the fifth victim succumbed to injuries en route to the hospital, the SHO informed.
Following the incident, the accused abandoned the dumper and fled the area, leaving law enforcement authorities in pursuit.
Circle Officer Prem Kumar noted that the motive behind the dispute is still under investigation, with initial indications suggesting no significant animosity between the victims and the accused prior to the altercation.
As of now, the whereabouts of the accused remain unknown, and the police have registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code against Ranjeet Singh and Dunger Singh, according to SHO Vijendra Singh.
The victims, identified as daily-wage laborers, are undergoing post-mortem examinations, as the authorities continue their efforts to arrest the suspects.
