A drug peddler was sent to jail, while four others were arrested under the NDPS Act in Jammu on Saturday, officials said.
Sanjay Kumar alias "Sanju", of Phalata village in Udhampur was booked under various provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act, they said.
A police spokesperson said an arrest warrant against the notorious drug peddler had been issued by the competent authority, after which action was taken on Friday. Kumar was sent to the district jail, Bhaderwah, in Doda district.
In Samba district, Anil Kumar, a resident of Ghagwal, was arrested after police seized 1.720 kg of poppy straw from him while he was travelling on a two-wheeler near his house, the spokesperson said.
Another peddler, identified as Yogeshwar Singh, was apprehended after 10.14 grams of heroin were recovered from his possession during a search of his car in the Vijaypur area of Samba district. He was allegedly travelling to a suspected location near his village, Bagoona. Police also seized his vehicle.
In Kathua district, police apprehended another drug peddler, Sandeep Kumar, after seizing five grams of heroin from his vehicle at Hatli Morh.
Police arrested drug peddler Naim Naseer, alias Raja, near Bhella Bridge and recovered 2.63 grams of heroin from his possession in Rajouri district.
All four accused have been booked under various provisions of the NDPS Act, he said.
