Assam Police have arrested five individuals for allegedly posting inflammatory and offensive content on social media following the recent blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday.

In a post on X, the chief minister stated that the government would maintain a “zero-tolerance policy” toward anyone misusing social media to spread hatred or glorify terrorism.

“Assam Police has arrested five individuals for spreading offensive and inflammatory content online related to the recent Delhi blast. We will continue to act swiftly and firmly against such behaviour,” Sarma wrote.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Mattiur Rahman from Darrang, Hassam Ali from Goalpara, Abdul Latif from Chirang, Wajhul Kamal from Kamrup, and Nur Amin Ahmed from Bongaigaon.

Earlier on Tuesday, police also detained a retired school principal in Cachar district for allegedly posting objectionable remarks that sought to “politicise” the Delhi incident.

The arrests come in the wake of a high-intensity explosion that occurred near the Red Fort metro station in Delhi on Monday evening. The blast, which ripped through a car, claimed 12 lives and left several others injured.

Assam Police have reiterated that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to incite communal tension or glorify acts of terror on digital platforms.
