A man wielding an iron rod unleashed an indiscriminate attack at the Golden Temple, injuring two ‘sewadars’ and three devotees before being apprehended, according to the police.
The assailant was seen moving around Guru Ramdas Niwas, also known as Guru Ramdas Sarai, on Friday before turning violent when questioned about his antecedents, said Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Secretary Partap Singh.
He then attacked SGPC employees and devotees present at the site.
Police confirmed that the man, a resident of Haryana, was handed over to them by the SGPC following the incident. The reason behind the attack remains under investigation.

Among the injured, three devotees had arrived from Mohali, Bathinda, and Patiala, while the remaining two were ‘sewadars’ of Sri Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple), Partap Singh stated.
One ‘sewadar’ and a devotee from Bathinda suffered severe head injuries and were rushed to Sri Guru Ramdas Hospital in Vallah in critical condition.
SGPC officials also confirmed that the assailant and an accomplice were apprehended and subsequently handed over to the police.
In a strong appeal to the government and law enforcement agencies, SGPC Secretary Partap Singh urged that no leniency be shown in taking action against the perpetrators.
