Five migrant workers from Jharkhand have been stranded in Cameroon and have appealed to the government for urgent assistance to bring them home.
The workers, from Giridih and Hazaribagh districts, allege that their employer has stopped paying wages and is not providing sufficient food or accommodation. In a video message, they described their deteriorating living conditions and requested immediate intervention. The video was sent to social worker Sikandar Ali, who shared it with the media and urged authorities to take swift action for their safe repatriation.
The workers have appealed to both the central and state governments to initiate concrete diplomatic measures to ensure their return.

This is not an isolated incident involving Jharkhand labourers facing distress abroad. Earlier this month, 48 workers stranded in Tunisia were brought back with government assistance. However, five workers from Bagodar in Giridih, kidnapped in Niger nearly seven months ago, remain in captivity. In another case, the body of Vijay Kumar Mahato from Dumri, Giridih, has been lying in Saudi Arabia for about a month without repatriation.
The workers currently stranded in Cameroon have been identified as Sunil Mahato and Sukar Mahato from Unchaghana under Bishnugarh police station, Chandrashekhar Kumar from Kargalo, and Deelon Mahato, all from Hazaribagh district, along with Dilchand Mahato from Dumri in Giridih district.
Their families and local social organisations have urged the government to act promptly to secure the safe return of the stranded labourers. **
