The administration of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College and Hospital (SLBSGMCH), Mandi, has expelled five MBBS students for a period of three months from classes and hostel. The decision came after the college’s Anti-Ragging Committee found them guilty of making false allegations of ragging against senior students.
According to the official order from the Principal’s office, the students, who were expelled, belong to the 2022 MBBS batch. Each of them has also been fined ₹25,000, which must be paid within a week. During their suspension period, they are not allowed to attend remedial classes.
Dr DK Verma, Principal of SLBSGMCH, said the students had accused their seniors of ragging incidents that were said to have happened in 2023. However, the committee’s detailed investigation found that the accusations were false.
“The inquiry revealed that the allegations were fabricated with an intent to malign the college's reputation and falsely implicate innocent students,” Dr. Verma said. “This kind of behaviour cannot be tolerated in an institution of medical education,” he added.
The college stressed that it follows a strict zero-tolerance policy on ragging but will also take strong action against false complaints to protect both students and the college’s reputation.
