Flashfloods have caused major damage in several parts of Lahaul and Spiti district over the past two days. Roads, bridges, farms, irrigation systems, and drinking water supply schemes have been affected in many parts of the district. Many villages are struggling, especially with transportation and farming-related issues.
Residents of the area stated that in Shansha village, an irrigation system was damaged, and a road bridge is at risk. In the Miyar valley, flashfloods in Karpat Nala on Saturday evening washed away a road bridge, cutting off transportation facilities for the residents.
Flashfloods in Dared Nala on the Sansari-Killar-Thirot-Tandi road (Udaipur subdivision) damaged a bridge and brought traffic to a halt. In Yangla village, flashfloods in Guldhar Nala ruined agricultural land and cash crops, causing major losses to farmers from the region. Two days ago, Kakti Nala floods damaged drinking water and irrigation systems, affecting several farmers.
Today, Lahaul and Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana and district officials visited the affected region. Anuradha assessed the damage and asked departments like PWD, Jal Shakti, and BRO to begin urgent repair work.
She said the district administration is working to assess the losses and provide help to farmers and families who have been affected due to flashfloods. She assured people that steps are being taken to restore roads, water, and essential services quickly.
“District administration officials are surveying the affected areas and preparing reports on damage caused. The relief and restoration work has already started in some locations. People have been advised to stay alert as weather conditions are still uncertain and there is a risk of more flashfloods,” she added.
