Dense fog across the Kashmir Valley disrupted normal life, while flight operations were also delayed at Srinagar airport for the second consecutive day on Saturday.
An official stated that all morning flights at Srinagar airport had been delayed due to low visibility caused by dense fog across the entire valley.
He said that all flights scheduled until 11 am had been delayed, and operations would resume only once visibility improved.
With reduced visibility, the chances of mishaps have also increased. In addition to air traffic, the dense fog cover has affected surface traffic, disrupting roads and railway operations.
Commuters experienced immense difficulties in driving across major roads due to low visibility in the morning.
Meanwhile, the MeT centre in Srinagar has predicted heavy snowfall across the Kashmir Valley from this evening until January 6.
It said there is likely to be moderate to heavy snowfall in the upper reaches, while the plains are expected to witness moderate to heavy snowfall in the next 24 hours. Authorities have also issued a yellow alert in view of the weather forecast.
In its advisory, the MeT said that, in view of the fresh snowfall, sub-freezing temperatures, and icy conditions over roads in both the plains and higher reaches, tourists, travellers, and transporters are advised to plan accordingly and follow administration and traffic advisories.
“There is a possibility of heavy snow at isolated higher reaches from the night of the 4th to late night on the 5th,” the advisory reads.
