Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will visit Sikkim on a three-day tour beginning May 1, during which she will travel to Soreng district, visit Gnathang village and review key government initiatives, Chief Minister Prem Singh Golay has announced.
According to Golay, Sitharaman will attend an official programme in Soreng before proceeding to Gnathang village, where she is scheduled to interact with local communities and assess the implementation of projects under the Vibrant Village Programme.
The visit will also include meetings with stakeholders, with the Union minister expected to review the progress of various government schemes and gather feedback at the grassroots level.
The Chief Minister described the visit as significant, noting that it would provide an opportunity to assess developmental initiatives in remote and border areas of the state.

In a parallel development, Golay said Chief Justice of India Surya Kant will also visit Sikkim on May 1 and 2 to take part in a national-level conference on information technology.
Highlighting the importance of the event, Golay said, “It is a matter of great happiness for us that the Chief Justice of India is coming to Sikkim. A national-level conference on information technology will be held, and his presence makes it a very significant programme for the state. I thank him for choosing Sikkim for this important event.”
The conference is expected to bring together members of the judiciary and other stakeholders to deliberate on the expanding role of technology in strengthening institutional systems.
Sitharaman’s visit comes amid a focus on enhancing infrastructure and connectivity in border regions, with programmes such as the Vibrant Village initiative aimed at improving living conditions and economic opportunities in remote areas.
The back-to-back high-level visits are likely to place Sikkim in focus over the coming days, with administrative and developmental priorities expected to be reviewed during the engagements.
