Arms, ammunition, and multiple communication gadgets were recovered after CPI-Maoist area commander Budhram Munda was killed by security forces in Jharkhand’s Khunti-Chaibasa area.
CPI (Maoist) area commander Budhram Munda was today killed in an encounter between security forces and Maoists on the Khunti-Chaibasa district border in Jharkhand.
The encounter took place on Thursday afternoon in a forest area under Karaikela Police Station, whereupon receiving secret information the forces including State police and CRPF CoBRA battalion were conducting search operations against Maoists.
According to State police during the search operation, Maoists started firing on the security forces. The police also opened fire in retaliation. A Maoist was killed by police firing. While the rest of the Maoists managed to escape by taking advantage of the dense forest.
Forces identified the killed Maoist as Bhudhram Munda, who was an active area commander of the CPI (Maoist) organisation.
Security forces recovered a pistol, magazines, live bullets, a talky, radio sets, a naxal uniform and several other items from the hideout of the Maoists.
Notably, search operations are being conducted in the wake of Lok Sabha elections that are due in four Lok Sabha constituencies in Jharkhand including Ranchi, Dhanbad, Giridih and Jamshedpur on May 25.
Special vigilance is being taken in the Naxal-affected border areas adjacent to Ranchi. Police fear that Naxalites may try to influence the elections. Therefore, combing operations are being conducted at various places.
