Foreign conspiracy behind Leh violence, says Ladakh LG

Ladakh LG Kavinder Gupta in the backdrop of scenario of violence in Leh

Calling the recent bloodshed in Leh a “well-orchestrated conspiracy”, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Kavinder Gupta has accused foreign-backed anti-national forces of fueling unrest in the Union Territory. He said the government will deal with such elements with an iron hand and will not allow anyone to disturb Ladakh’s peace and harmony.

In a scathing statement, Gupta said vested interests from across the border are working in collusion with local disruptors to mislead the youth and destabilize the region.“The government will not tolerate anti-national forces vitiating the peaceful atmosphere of Ladakh. Those involved in this violence will be exposed, arrested, and punished. No one will be spared,” the Lieutenant Governor warned.

Acting on intelligence inputs, Ladakh Police has begun large-scale arrests of those allegedly involved in Tuesday’s mob violence. The LG urged the people of Ladakh not to fall prey to propaganda, assuring that the administration is committed to safeguarding the interests of Ladakhis.

On the other hand, soon after Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta alleged a foreign hand behind Tuesday’s deadly violence in Leh, National Conference President and former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah strongly refuted the claim, urging the Centre to address the “real grievances of Ladakh’s people.”Dr. Abdullah emphasized that the unrest is not driven by external forces, but by frustration over unfulfilled promises, including the long-awaited statehood for Ladakh.

“I don’t think there is any foreign hand in the protest. The anger of Ladakh should not be labelled as something else. The Centre had promised us statehood — what happened to that promise?” he asked. The remarks come amid widespread outrage over the killing of five young men during clashes between protesters and security forces. Authorities have imposed curfew in several areas of Leh to prevent further escalation, while police have arrested dozens in connection with the violence.

Pointing to the deteriorating situation, Dr. Abdullah questioned why Ladakh’s young generation has drifted away from the path of Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violence and called on the Union Government to restore faith by fulfilling commitments.

“The government must talk to the people of Ladakh and resolve the issue before it worsens. Suppression will not bring peace; dialogue will,” he asserted.
