A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), working in coordination with the Tripura Police, carried out raids at several locations across the Unakoti district on Tuesday. The operation is part of the agency's investigation into an alleged document forgery scam, a senior police officer has confirmed.
Superintendent of Police (Police Control), Rajdeep Deb, said that the Tripura Police had been notified about the operation in advance by the NIA's Ahmedabad branch. “The NIA team carried out raids in Unakoti district on Wednesday, but we are not aware of further details,” Deb said.
Sources within the state police’s intelligence wing disclosed that the raids were primarily focused on locating and gathering information about two individuals. Paritosh Shil, 45, — a resident of the Bhagyapur area under the Kailashahar Police Station jurisdiction. Ranu Pal, 42,— who resides in the Nidevi area, falling under the Kumarghat P.S. The two people are suspected of being involved in fabricating forged documents.
Speaking to local reporters, Paritosh Shil confirmed that NIA officials arrived at his residence at approximately 4 am.
“They searched my house, checked several documents, and seized my mobile phone and a bank passbook. They asked me to appear at the NIA’s Ahmedabad office on November 20,” he said. Shil also claimed that the officers showed him a photograph of an individual and enquired whether he knew the person, a connection he denied.
As of yet, the NIA has not released an official statement detailing the outcome of the raids or the overall scope of their investigation.
