Former Bihar minister Brishin Patel informed mediapersons is his native district of Vaishali on Sunday that he has joined the Jan Suraaj Party, which was founded by political strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor. He had met Kishor and became a member of the newly floated outfit a day before.
Besides being once elected to the Lok Sabha from Siwan, Patel, a former close aide of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has served as a representative for the Vaishali assembly segment many times.
Patel, who comes from a lineage of freedom warriors, was once considered as the state's second-most influential Kurmi leaded after Nitish Kumar.
Patel, who was a member of the JD (U) at the time, was inducted into the state government after Nitish Kumar became the Chief Minister in 2005.
However, his relationship with Nitish turned sore in 2015 when he sided with outgoing chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and joined the Hindustani Awam Morcha.
Patel left the NDA and joined the RJD ahead of the 2020 assembly elections, which saw a tie-up between Manjhi and Kumar.
