Former Himachal CM Jairam Thakur narrowly escapes landslide in Mandi.

A major tragedy was averted in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district when former Chief Minister and current Leader of Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, narrowly escaped a landslide during his return journey from rain-hit Karsog to Thunag in the Seraj region.

The incident occurred near Shankar Dehra when stones suddenly tumbled down a hillside and struck his car. Thakur, acting swiftly and with presence of mind, stepped out of the car just moments before it was hit and moved to safety. The sudden rockfall sparked panic in the area, but fortunately, the former CM escaped unharmed.

Speaking after the incident, Thakur urged the administration to accelerate relief operations and called for unity in the face of this crisis. “This is time for collective efforts rather than politics. We must stand together and ensure that help reaches affected communities,” he said.

Landslide damages homes, roads in Dharwar Thach

Shortly after this close call, a major landslide struck the Dharwar Thach area. Several houses were damaged, and a large section of the road was washed away, completely disrupting vehicular movement. As heavy rains continue to batter the region, fear and anxiety have gripped local residents.
Disaster response teams have been deployed for rescue and evacuation, but their efforts are being severely hampered by the relentless downpour.

IMD issues heavy rain alert

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for the region over the next 48 hours. The authorities have advised residents and tourists to remain indoors, avoid unnecessary movement in hilly terrain, and stay updated through official channels.
