Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has now filed a petition in the Jharkhand High Court against the order of the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Ranchi in the case of disobeying the summons of the Enforcement Directorate.
The petition filed on behalf of Soren by his lawyer states that Hemant Soren had responded to the summons of ED, for which he did not go to ED’s Zonal Office in Ranchi.
Soren appeared before the ED on the fresh summons and complied with the summons. It said that the ED, motivated by malicious intent, had issued summons to him eight times.
The Assistant Director of ED had filed a complaint against Hemant Soren in the CJM court in the month of January for not complying with the summons sent by the Central investigating agency.
After the hearing, the court accepted the ED's case as correct and allowed the case to be prosecuted against Hemant Soren.
Hemant Soren is currently in Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi in the 8.46-acre land scam relating to money laundering. ED has filed a charge sheet in this case.
The date of April 18 has been fixed on the summons of the CJM court.
Notably, ED had served 10 summons to Hemant Soren between August 2023 and January 2024, out of which Soren honoured only two summons.
He appeared for questioning before the ED officers in the land scam case only twice on January 20 and January 31, 2024, when he was finally arrested by the ED.
