Former minister and AJSU Party vice-president Umakant Rajak, along with BJP MLA Kedar Hazra and several other leaders and party workers, joined the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Friday.
Rajak, who is disgruntled with NDA for denying him a ticket in the seat-sharing agreement, will contest from Chandankyari, while Hazra will represent JMM in Jamua for similar reasons.
Talking about his decision to join JMM, Rajak said that he has always served as a devoted follower of JMM chief Shibu Soren and believes that Hemant Soren has emerged as the voice of the entire State. "I consider myself fortunate and will work hand in hand to strengthen JMM," he said.
Rajak further said that his return to JMM feels like coming home during the election buzz of 2024. He urged the tribal communities of Jharkhand to stay alert, warning them about external leaders trying to incite divisions based on caste and religion.
"We are determined to secure Hemant Soren’s re-election as Chief Minister. We are not afraid of jail and will do whatever it takes to ensure the success of the All India Alliance," he said.
Notably, the NDA announced its seat-sharing agreement on Friday, in which Rajak’s seat went into the BJP’s fold. Similarly, Kedar Hazara is unlikely to get a BJP ticket this time from his seat.
