Four personnel from the Faridabad Police sustained injuries after allegedly being attacked by villagers and relatives of a man arrested in a vehicle theft case in Jamalgarh village, situated in Haryana’s Nuh district, according to police officials on Saturday.
The alleged incident occurred on Friday, when a police team arrived in the village to arrest a suspect, identified as Salim alias Salli.
A case has been registered against 20 men and one woman under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The injured officers are currently receiving treatment at hospitals in Gurugram and Faridabad.
In a complaint lodged by Assistant Sub-Inspector Samsuddin, it was stated that the police team had left the village in a private vehicle after arresting the accused. However, a white pick-up vehicle began tailing them shortly thereafter.
When the team reached Aadarav Chowk around 2 pm, approximately 20 men and a woman, positioned along the roadside, allegedly began pelting stones at the police vehicle.
Constable Vikrant, who was driving, diverted the vehicle towards Punhana town in an attempt to escape the assault, but the vehicle overturned.
Following the crash, as the police personnel and the accused exited the vehicle, the pick-up reportedly attempted to run them over, causing further chaos.
Sub-Inspector Sunder, Head Constable Yunis Khan, and Constables Vikrant and Nitin were injured in the attack.
Samsuddin stated in his complaint, “The accused’s family members and the villagers then tried to free Salim from custody but fled after a constable reached the spot in a police vehicle.”
Punhana Station House Officer Jasvir Singh confirmed that raids were ongoing to apprehend those involved in the incident.
