A head-on collision between a private bus and an SUV in Andhra Pradesh’s Allagadda district in the early hours on Friday killed at least four people and injured several, with at least two suffering grievous injuries.
The police said the SUV was headed towards Hyderabad from Tirupati when the driver lost control of the vehicle, veered across the road divider and crashed into a private bus coming from the opposite direction. The bus was travelling from Hyderabad to Puducherry.
The accident, which took place at about 3 a.m. at Nallagatla in Allagadda mandal, snuffed the lives of four of those travelling in the SUV.
Two of those who suffered critical injuries were also in the car and rushed to a hospital nearby.
All six car passengers are said to be residents of Nizampet in Hyderabad, who had been accompanying ‘Shiva Svamis’ during their pilgrimage since the past couple of days and cooking for them. They were returning to Hyderabad when the accident took place.
Meanwhile, all the passengers in the bus are safe, and were shifted to another vehicle to take them to their destinations since the bus suffered damage.
The state’s Roads and Buildings Minister, BC Janardhan Reddy, expressed shock over the loss of lives and asked the officials to provide the best possible treatment to the injured.
