At least four people were killed and several properties damaged in the past 24 hours in Doda district due to heavy rains and adverse weather conditions, officials said on Tuesday.
A senior administrative official said two people died when their house collapsed, while two others were swept away in flash floods triggered by incessant rainfall.
Initial reports suggest that there has been considerable damage to more than a dozen structures and other properties in several areas.
The administration is on high alert, with rescue and relief operations underway, officials added. The authorities have warned residents, particularly those in low-lying and hilly areas, to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel amid the continuous downpour.
While the situation across the Jammu division remains serious, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is personally monitoring developments. His office said in a post on X that the Chief Minister had convened a meeting in Jammu to take stock of flood control measures in Jammu.
It also said that “The Chief Minister held a meeting today in the morning to review flood mitigation measures at Jammu in view of incessant rains. He directed the officers to maintain high alert and take all necessary measures.”
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister shared a post on his personal social media handle, “The situation in many parts of Jammu is quite serious. I’ll be taking the next available flight from Srinagar to Jammu to personally monitor the developing situation,” he said.
