In a swift and coordinated operation, four minor girls who had gone missing from Guwahati’s Basistha area were traced and rescued from Howrah in West Bengal on Tuesday night, within 24 hours of their disappearance, police said. The girls, all students of Beltola Majhipara Middle English School and residents of the Basistha-Beharbari locality, had left their homes for school on the morning of June 1. Concern arose when they failed to return home by evening, prompting their families to initiate a search.
Following unsuccessful attempts to locate them, the parents lodged formal complaints at Basistha Police Station, stating that the four minors had left together and remained untraceable thereafter.
Acting promptly on the missing reports, Basistha Police launched an investigation and began efforts to trace the girls’ movements. A coordinated operation involving teams from Basistha Police Station and the West Bengal Police led to a breakthrough, with all four girls being located in Howrah.
Police officials confirmed that the minors were rescued safely and are reported to be in good condition. A team from Basistha Police has since departed for Howrah to complete the necessary legal formalities and arrange for their return to Guwahati.
Authorities stated that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the circumstances under which the girls travelled outside Assam and to determine the sequence of events leading to their disappearance.
